— A Process That Works —

The Process

You know the old saying, ‘It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it’? In some industries it’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. We want to treat each placenta like it’s our very own. That’s why we are very careful to only process one placenta encapsulation for placenta pills, at a time.

Every placenta thoroughly washed and rinsed
Ambilical cord removed for keepsake
Placenta is seperated
Placenta is steamed with or without herbs
Placenta is dried in a food grade dehydrator
The placenta is ground for placenta pills

How should I keep and handle my placenta?

As quickly as possible after the birth the placenta should be placed into a food-grade container (two large freezer zip-loc baggies will work if you are at a home or birth center, and many hospitals will place it in a plastic carton for you). The placenta should be then sealed tightly and refrigerated or placed on ice.

Will the hospital release my placenta to me?

Absolutely! Just let your nurse know that you want to keep it, just be sure it’s kept chilled asap. The only exception is if your placenta went to Pathology, then you can’t encapsulate it.

How many placenta pills will I get?

It’s hard to say, placentas come in varying sizes. You could get as few as 80 and as much as 270. The average is around 120.

Do you have home birth info?
